Sustainable developmentand social responsibility
Sustainable Development refers to a long-term vision developed by a company to integrate ecological and social dimensions into its strategic planning, with the aim of ensuring its sustainability while reducing its environmental footprint on the planet. Our commitment to our employees and customers is important, but so is our commitment to future generations, which is why Services Paysagers Dominique Filion judiciously integrates Sustainable Development into its business practices.
Co-creating with nature is our mission. As stewards of the land, our pledge is to protect and enhance the quality of the environment, while preserving our natural heritage and the richness of our biodiversity and ecosystems. All these essential components of sustainable development are at the forefront of our aspirations and so is our commitment to supporting the socio-economic development of our dear community.

We mobilize these 4Ps towards a fifth: sustainability.
Sustainable development is at the very heart of every project we undertake, and we ensure our solutions are tailored to your needs.
It’s worth noting that since 2020, our company has held the CARBORESPONSABLE certificate for having met all the requirements set by Enviro-accès inc.
We are among the experts in ecoresponsible landscape design and implementation listed in the Fonds Écoleader directory. As such, our services could be financed as part of a project submitted to the Fonds Écoleader funding program.
To this end, we devote particular attention to:
- Use of light-colored pavers/slabs to reflect light;
- Green roofing to create an insulating effect (temperature control in the building), increase biodiversity and reduce GHGs.
- Channeling runoff water to dry wells
- Use of permeable paving, replacing conventional practices (asphalt/concrete paving) to reduce water runoff, allow percolation into the ground as well as recharge the underground water supply.
- Planting trees to increase canopy cover (e.g., to shade parking lots), promote biodiversity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions;
- Planting perennials and shrubs to reduce ambient noise, provide insulation and an invigorating living space for pollinators.
- Minimizing the ecological footprint by using natural materials; cedar wood, natural stone, etc.
- Use of sustainable materials: prefabricated concrete, composite wood, etc.

A few examples of our green projects
The idea behind this project was to breathe new life into this old abandoned site located in the heart of the city, and to offer an exceptional living environment to new residents and condo owners by providing access to water and lush natural surroundings.
Everything was designed and built to offer residents a pleasant, safe and welcoming environment. The pedestrian walkways were designed to connect common spaces such as the in-ground pool and the waterfront to the parking areas and residential buildings.
Sustainable development practices employed in this project include the following:
- Naturalization and stabilization of the banks around the site.
- Recovery of runoff water in underground retention basins.
- Creation of vegetated water retention ditches
- Installation of green roofs
Located in Montreal’s International District, this large-scale landscaping project reflects the architectural boldness of the two buildings. Featuring a central water feature, a huge paved area designed for smooth circulation, rest areas, and inviting rooftop terraces, this development offers a unique sensory and cultural experience.
The project features a range of sustainable development techniques:
- Green roofing for the central terrace
- The color of the reflective paving (pale)
- Planters on the roofs of the buildings
“Creating a peaceful oasis”, thus was our brief. We used natural stone on the steep slopes, and incorporated several species of conifers to add a touch of greenery and create an intimate, lush universe.
Different textures of materials were used to delineate specific zones. A staircase, fully integrated into the organic-style layout, facilitates access to the pathway higher up, while a natural wood fence guarantees privacy when dining on the terrace.
In terms of sustainable development, several approaches were put forward for this project, including:
- Planting the slopes with plants with strong root systems to counter soil erosion
- The use of noble materials such as natural stone for the terrace and cedar wood for the fence and balcony
- Soil permeation (pebble sections)
- Use of a pale color for reflective paving stones
- Burying gutters in a dry well
- The incorporation of various plant species to foster biodiversity
Set in a lush green setting, this garden is in perfect symbiosis with its natural surroundings. The in-ground pool becomes the focal point, as the antique cobblestone pathway, clean lines of the pool, and textured plants exquisitely blend together to create a sublime haven of peace.
Various aspects of sustainable development were used in this project, including:
- Increased soil permeability thanks to locally sourced pebble
- Enhanced biodiversity through increased planted areas
- Reduced water demand based on integrated planting beds and ground cover.
Our approach has been recognized and certified. Below are a few examples:
Since 2020, our company has held the CARBORESPONSABLE attestation for fulfilling all the requirements set by Enviro-accès inc.
We also hold the Level 1 “Committed Organization” certification issued by Addère. ALT1: This attestation recognizes Quebec-based organizations that are seriously and proactively committed to integrating sustainable development into their business practices.
